Colonel Marinel MARE

Colonel Marinel MARE, a native of Scărişoara, Romania, graduated the Romanian Military School for Artillery Officers in 1989 and was commissioned as a Second Lieutenant in the Romanian Army.

He has held many command and staff positions throughout his career. Once promoted to Captain, he was appointed staff officer, and then commanded the Anti-Tank Batteryof the Romanian 26th Infantry Battalion, nicknamed “Red Scorpions”. As a Major, he served as head of current operations, within the 2nd Infantry Brigade HQ, now the Multinational Brigade South-East.

Since 2007 he served in key leadership positions at tactical and strategic level of the Romanian military such as commander of the 96th MLRS Battalion, Head of the Field Artillery Training Office in Romanian Land Forces Staff, Head of the Arms Control and Non-proliferation Office in Romanian General Staff, and Head of Strategies Office in General Staff, where he was responsible for coordinating the drafting teams for Romania’s 2016 Military Strategy, as well as for Romanian Armed Forces Military Doctrine.

His deployments include tours in Angola as platoon leader (UNAVEM III Peacekeeping Operation, 1998), in Afghanistan as Battalion’s Head of Personnel (Operation Enduring Freedom, 2002), and in Iraq as Red Scorpions’ Head of Operations (Operation Antica Babilonia, 2004).

Aside from the Military School for Artillery Officers, Colonel Marinel MARE  graduated the Program on Advanced Applied Security Studies of George C. Marshall European Center for security Studies, and also the International Fellows Program from the U.S. National War College. He holds a Master Degree in Military Science (National Defense University of Bucharest) and a Master Degree in National Defense Strategy (U.S. National Defense University of Washington, D.C.).

Colonel Marinel MARE holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Communication and Public Relations, and a Master’s Degree in Managerial Communication and Human Resources (National School for Political and Administrative Studies of Bucharest).

He was promoted to his current position in May 2017 and assumed responsibilities as Chief of Staff of Headquarters Multinational Division South-East.

Colonel Marinel MARE is married to Carmina and has two children.
